Projection2 – Reference: Black Mirror

Black Mirror is a television series which addresses the theme of speculative fiction. Each episode indicates individual narratives that can be viewed separately from the others. The show includes various genres like horror, science fiction, and psychological thriller. The stories in the show, though are set in the near-future background, reflect and critique contemporary social issues.

In my project, as I try to mock the patriarchal society and critique contemporary gender stereotypes, I approach the subject similar to what Charlie Brooker with Black Mirror. I developed a speculative future world where there are body implants designed for women to improve their ability with domestic work and to make them more docile.

As part of my project, I reference various narratives in Black Mirror to develop the idea of creating an investigation report video. This video provides a different perspective from the existing ‘AnKang Bio™’ website.

AnKang Biotechnology is a large corporation that develops and sells body implants. The website of AnKang Bio™ in my project is created to perfect the image of this large corporation and become a supporter of this future society. The video, however, reveals that AnKang Bio™’s products are problematic and harmful to people.
